Arkiv catalogue opened to a photo spread

The brief

Arkiv holds 4,000 objects and had never published a full catalogue. The museum wanted a book for the shop and an online archive that researchers could actually use.

The approach

A single typeface at four sizes carries everything, from captions to the cover. Objects sit on a strict grid so the photographs, not the layout, do the talking. The online archive reuses the same grid, so print and screen feel like one publication.

Outcome

The first print run of 3,000 copies sold out in five months, and the archive now gets 20,000 visits a month.
